About Dr. Dane Smith:

Dr. Dane Smith is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon currently practicing in Oregon. His home is located on the southern Oregon coast in North Bend. Dr. Smith graduated from the University of California with his dental degree in 1972 where he entered the oral and maxillofacial surgery program at the University of California in San Francisco and completed his training in 1975. Dr. Smith found interest in dental implantology early in his practice, placing his first implant in 1978 and shortly thereafter initiated the formation of the Oregon Institute of Dental Implantology. The institute began bringing prominent members of the implant community to the southern Oregon coast to present seminars and live surgeries for dentists interested in this new area of treatment for patients. Dr. Smith has used essentially all of the emerging dental implant technologies which became available culminating in almost exclusive use of OCO Biomedical dental implants in the last 12 years. Dr. Smith has the highest success rate of any implant users in the OCO Biomedical system, having 99% of placed implants still functioning over the last 15 years. Dr. Smith continues to work in the field of dental implantology in various offices in Oregon, having limited his practice to office spaced oral and maxillofacial surgery. His commitment to a high level of services extends into involvement with a dentist-owned insurance company in the state of Oregon and surrounding states of Washington and Idaho in the development of creative ways for patients to access dental care at all levels.

Along with his interest in teaching dental implantology, Dr. Smith works to develop creative ways for patients to access needed dental care.
